I know its only the Summer but that time is coming up again where you’re going to have to pack for college.  If you’re going away to college, you’re going to have to make sure that you have everything that you need during your college career.

Yes, I know it can be scary for the first time, but you have to look on the bright side.  You’re there to get an education and let’s hope by the time you graduate, you can land yourself a wonderful job that will pay lots of money!

Tip #1  Make sure that you have everything

We  have a great college dorm room checklist that you can look into.  While it’s still in its infant stages, we add new items every month.  Yes, some items are needed, while others are optional.  You should know what you need yourself.

Tip #2 You will need flip flops

Since you’re going to be sharing a bathroom with others, you have no idea whats going to be on the floor.  Make sure that you purchase yourself a cheap pair of flip flops to protect your feet.

Tip #3 Have a bathroom bag

Again, if you’re going to staying in a dorm room, you’re going to have to share a bathroom.  To make things easier, have a bag that is  designated to bathroom items only.  Items such as shampoo, soaps, a toothbrush, and more should be stored here.

Tip #4 Don’t forget the storage!

Dorm rooms are small.  There are some great under the bed storage containers that you can purchase that simply slide under your bed.  You’re going to find out that you’re going to want storage for your room.

Tip #5 Do a full sweep of grocery shopping

Before you even get there, you will want to avoid as much stress as possible.  Hit up your local grocery store and purchase all of the essentials that you’re going to need.  You don’t want to buy too much because again, the spaces is going to be limited.

Tip #6 Make it feel like home

If you’re 100 or 1,000 miles away from home, you’re going to want your dorm feel like home.  Thousands of students each year get homesick and you don’t want to become that statistic.  Whether its a picture, rug, or something.  Bring this along to make yourself feel at home.

Tip #7 Ask yourself if you need it

Space is limited, you should know this by now.  If you’re packing stupid things, you don’t want to bring it, because its just going to take up space.  For every item that you pack, you’re going to want to ask yourself, “Do I need this?”

Tip #8 Contact your roommate

Yes, you’re going to have a roommate in college.  You may not know that person quite well, but make sure you get contact information.  You’re going to want to ask them what they are bringing.  This is going to avoid those duplicates that you may potentially bring.  There’s no reason for 2 dorm refrigerators.
