5 Things Every College Student Must Have
When preparing to go to college there are certain things that every student needs. There are the basic everyday necessities as well as emergency items. Depending on the student and their personal needs, the list may need to be expanded. They key is to think ahead and be prepared. Below is a list of the little and big things that every student should consider having when preparing for college.
1) Emergency Credit Card
Students are often warned about the negative aspects of having a credit card when going to college. However, an emergency credit card is a must have for students. If used for the right reasons it can help students when unexpected expenses come up. The key is having a budget and knowing that they will be able to make the payments in a timely manner.
2) Computer
A computer at one time may have not been considered a need. But for the student attending college today it is a must have. Grant it there are computer labs on campus for student use. But the reality is that college students are often up until the wee hours of the morning completing assignments. The student that has their own computer can spend more time working on school work rather than worrying about making the trip to the computer lab. Walking around campus late at night is not always safe and can become a deterrent for a student needing to use a computer.
3) Cell Phone
Cell phones have become quite popular and may seem to be a distraction with the constant texting that has become so popular. The truth is that cell phones can save money for both students and parents. Phones in the dorm room work just as well, however the long distance and local long distance rates can be pricy. Cell phones normally have unlimited long distance included in the plan. If the idea of a contract sounds scary then consider a month to month plan with no commitment.
4) Microwave
If allowed in a dorm room, a microwave is a money saver. College students can spend quite a bit of money ordering pizza and other fast food when studying or coming in late. Having a microwave gives them options. They can heat up snacks and meals which can save a lot of money in the long run.
5) Shower Shoes
This may sound silly but not really. Students will most likely be sharing a bathroom with one or several other people. The last thing a person would want to do is step into a communal shower with bare feet. You never know what germs you could potentially step into that may lead to a visit to the doctor. Shower shoes are worth their weight in gold and an absolute must have.
The items on this list may seem trivial but when you look closely they are actually big money savers. These are the things that students must have to help make their college experience a little more stress free. This list can be expanded to include personal prescriptions, emergency phone numbers, extra supplies and pretty much anything that an individual student must have. Take this list and personalize to fit the student’s personal needs. These must haves will definitely help students to reach their personal best!
