When you are getting your son or daughter ready for college life there are things that they should never live without especially when they are going to be away from home. You may need to go with them and make sure that they get all the final details in order. But remember they are not going to be gone forever. You can also send care packages when they get low on something that is a necessity.

Credit card – This credit card can be used for emergencies on the trip to college or if you have a set limit for them to use for excess supplies or even clothing. If you make a refillable credit card available for them to use when they are at college they know that they have a limit and they will not get anything more than that limit because it will be gone. This is a great way to keep track of the balance on the credit card and to teach them how to stay on a budget until they come home for break.

Cell phone – The cell phone would be used for emergencies when on the trip to college or if they are away from the dorm room and you need to get a hold of someone for a certain reason. You can either put enough funds on the credit card for them to add more time to their phone or you can get a family plan that they can call within the circle for a better price.

Clean clothes – Making sure that their clothes are clean makes a great first impression especially if they are going to be sharing a dorm room. This is where your mother was always telling you to pack a couple pairs of clean underwear just in case.

Dorm accessories – Personalizing your dorm room is one of the things that is a must. They are going to be there for awhile so they need to spend some time figuring out what all they need to take with them. Bed in a bag for sure and a desk lamp so they don’t disturb their roommate when they are up studying at all hours of the night just for starters. If they run into something that they really need they could use the credit card to pick it up.

Personal items – These are things that make their transition go a little smoother being away from home. Maybe a photo album of good memories, something that reminds them of who they are and why they are there can make it feel more like home. This could even be hygiene products or a calming candle that can be lit while studying.

College students’ need all they can get from home especially support and making sure they are comfortable. They can always call home and ask for money at anytime. This is why the credit card is refillable. If they may need a few things that they can’t find on campus or in the city send them a special care package showing that you still love them and are thinking about them no matter how much they have grown up.
