Textbooks can cost you an arm, and leg if you buy directly from a college.  As we all know, a college student doesn’t have the most money in the world.  Well, thankfully for the Internet, and other companies out there, there are some great ways on how you can save money when buying your textbooks.

Always buy used instead of new

There’s nothing wrong with buying used, because you’re going to get the same textbook.  You may find that there are some rips or markings in it, but as long as all the pages are together, and you can read the text, used text books shouldn’t be a problem for you at all.  Try websites like Half and Amazon to find great deals on your textbooks.

Try stores like Chegg

Chegg is an amazing concept, and there are a lot of students out there who use the service.  What makes Chegg unique is that you’re able to rent your textbook, rather than buy it.  As long as you have the ISBN, you can place that in, and see if they have the book.   If you want to keep the book at the end of the rental period, you can always purchase it.

Go to your campus library

If you’re going to take this route, I would highly recommend you get to the library well before your class even starts.  Many students didn’t even know that you can get a textbook in the library.  Keep checking out the book during your semester, and you won’t have to pay a dime!

Buy your book, then sell

Take the advice above, and buy your book used.  Once you’re done with the class, you may find that you won’t even need the book.  This is when you can then turn around, and sell it on the Internet once again.  A majority of the time, you’re going to find that you can 70-80% of your money back.  Since many colleges across the United States use the same textbook, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a buyer, if you sell it right away.
