If you have plans to go away to school you probably already have a good idea on how expensive it is.  Between the cost of tuition, books, and all the supplies you need for your dorm you’re going to be spending a good chunk of change that you’ve probably been underestimating until now.

College students love the feeling of having a new atmosphere, having a dorm all to themselves, and the thought of having no family around.  It is also a fun thing to shop for!  From decorations, to school supplies to dorm bedding, you have a lot to shop for, but it’s a good idea that you take one step at a time.  In order to decorate your room nicely, you more than likely need to pick out a color as well as a bed set so you have matching pieces.  To get you started, I’m going to fill you in on five ways to save on the cost of dorm room bedding below.

#1 Compare the prices.

There are so many different stores and companies that carry bedding supplies.  Whether you’re interested in a Target set or a Bed Bath and Beyond collection, it’s important to get the most for your money.  You’ll really understand that once you begin paying for all your supplies!

#2 Consider shopping online.

Although it’s great to actually see the bedding in person, online can also be justified.  Online prices are typically cheaper due to the fact that there’s no middle man.  Not to mention, you won’t have to go from store to store and waste gas money while you’re searching.  Just simply type in something such as ”College Bedding“.  Great websites such as Residence Hall Linens will pop up and make your searching worthwhile.

#3 Use coupons.

If you’re not coupon crazy already, now is the time to start!  As a college student, coupons should be your best friend.  Coupons can be found online as coupon codes, you can find them in newspapers, and you can even visit the sites of the companies you’re interested in to print out a coupon.  Before you give any money away, always check for a coupon!  Technologically savvy?  Check your iPhone or smart phone for coupons apps to make it even easier.

#4 Consider outlet or warehouse deals.

When you consider prices from an outlet mall or warehouse costs like a Costco you’re typically going to get more for your money.  Consider these shopping places, as well as warehouses online!

#5 Make your own.

Are you a crafty person?  If so, consider going to a craft store to buy fabric.  Then, sew the two pieces together and thrown in some stuffing.  Making your own bedding allows you to customize, save money, as well as create a fun project.

As you can see, there are ways to save money on just about anything.  Even if you’re saving a few bucks here and a few bucks there you’re going to save a lot of money in the long run.  College is an expensive time in your life, so if you have the opportunity to save any money – do it!

College students at this day and age have more than a couple of things running through their minds. They have homework, job-hunt, and parties to fret about, among other things. The car that they drive actually serves as their lifeline. However, the idea of procuring car insurance for someone who’s younger than 25 makes them squirm. Persons at this age expend on the highest car insurance fees and premiums in the realm. Skipping the insurance at one fell swoop however could show the way to countless dilemmas. That involves losing your driver’s license, getting some jail time, monetary afflictions and the risk you take with auto insurers, not to mention the high risk on the road in case what’s not sought-after in fact happens.

Youngsters such as college students are characteristically searching for the most affordable insurance for their cars. Insurance companies usually provide a combination of low rates and discounts to be able to make low-cost car insurance available for college students. There are a lot of different factors that influence the cost of car insurance for young drivers.

What influences the car insurance quote…

  • If the college student’s main address is still his or her parent’s house, then they are usually covered under their parents’ car insurance policies. There are a hefty number of companies that often offer discounts on auto insurance that college students’ parents can avail for them.
  • Rates may change as well if the student drives the automobile at school.
  • Drivers in urban areas generally pay more for insurance as oppose to the amount those in small towns or rural areas expend.
  • If you’re buying a new vehicle, Checking vehicle ratings and taking into account which vehicles offer the most cut-rate car insurance cost are must do’s. Furthermore, never neglect to contact your insurance agent to have the new vehicle added onto your policy.

How to consider saving money…

  • If you are a College-aged driver, being covered under your parents’ policy is the wisest choice, and so does keeping your vehicle registered under your parents’ names. If the auto is registered to the family policy, the child is typically covered at a lower cost compared to having the car insured solely under the child’s name. College students can expect to pay about 50 percent more for their car insurance than professional adults. Cost can sometimes even stretch to twice as much as what older drivers spend.
  • In an effort to trim down your premiums, one thing you should avoid is to hold back on liability coverage. College-aged drivers are prone to be in an accident; hence you could be caught in tens of thousands of dollars of expenses if your child hits someone else’s car or hurt someone and your liability limits are too low.

If you must get car insurance on your own, it’s wise to compare insurance quotes online or better yet, if you can, try to see what your college campus is all about.  You may find that you won’t even need a car around to get from point A to point B.

A school carnival can be celebration of your institution and a helpful way to make your school known in the larger society. School carnivals can be the gateway to a pleasurable interaction amongst everybody in the campus. In addition, this fun affair can also help schools raise needed funds while also promoting school spirit and the significance of oneness. Students, teachers and volunteers such as parents get to meet and greet anyone and everyone while having a taste of carnival food and trying out the games and stations.

Coming up with cool and creative college carnival ideas is not easy. Hence giving your carnival a theme that goes with the season or celebration to help plan specific and innovative activities for your event somehow sets in as a standard procedure. Invite your fellow students to participate by holding a mini election for their preferred theme among several different ones they are presented to pick from. Determine most popular choice and from there brainstorming for ideas and planning can start. Tickets should be sold and distributed ahead of time in order for students to use them at any or every carnival booth.

Themes to think about…

Mardi Gras is one of the popular themes in college carnivals. Mardi Gras-themed carnivals are all about floats, beads and a whole lot of dancing. Each class can perhaps make their respective floats to represent the group in a parade. Another prominent choice for a college carnival theme is Rodeo. This theme on the other hand is all about re-experiencing the Old West. Chaps and 10-gallon hats are what should never be excluded in your attire and that’s a fact.

Furthermore, the best carnival activity not only for an elementary school, high school, but even for college is inflatable rides. Inflatable rides are great because kids, teenager, and even young adults can play on them and they are an awesome way to raise money for any college organization. Inflatables at carnivals, especially the larger and more interactive ones like jousting arenas, boxing rings, obstacle courses, and bungee runs are extremely fun that just about anyone at any age love them.

As an added attraction, you can setup different food stations like hotdog or soda stands. Popcorn and Snow Cones are ever-present at carnivals and if you make them as giveaways lure in more people to buy tickets just to get in.

College carnivals can not only be thrown by students as a fundraiser for their school activities or by parents and educators for the students to celebrate an event such as graduation. Most importantly, the carnival games and activities allow those who attend to let loose and have lots of fun.

Back in the days prior to the birth of the television and video games, entertainment at nighttime often involved games of cards. Card games are a great way to have fun and entertain your friends. It sets off a fun competition, and best of all, you can still have a great conversation like share good jokes or amusing experiences. Inviting your friends for a few games of cards is an idea that will never fail. You might even be surprised how much fun all of you will have! Furthermore, playing cards have been around for more than a couple thousand years. Subsequently, it somehow seems suiting that the classic art of drinking be paired up with the somewhat less primeval art of card games. So put out a deck of playing cards, get cool company, and prepare your beverage of choice.

Hold a tournament with various games

Holding a tournament in the card game of your choice is another idea you can probably introduce to your friends.

  • You can try one on one solitaire and each player handles their own game gets a point for being the first one to win.
  • You can race to 5.
  • A Rummy or Cribbage tournament is an effective option.
  • If you don’t like the super popular Texas Hold’em, a spades or hearts tournament in two teams is a good alternative.

More so, if you bend the existing rules a little bit, it can really be exciting. You can even make your own rules. Go for the fun and silly rules to set off more laughter amongst the group. Rule breakers can also get goofy punishments.

Switch it up once in awhile

Those are only some ideas to lure your friends over for some get-together and have some great inexpensive fun. Switching houses is even better so that the host responsibility is passed on to each person in the group. A variety of games each week help keep the thrill. It’s just not as fun when each of you is down and wicked serious about playing the game. Hence, ensure that the fire of the game is kept alive!

There are many reasons why college students frequently play card games in parties or even just on their wee hours. One deck of cards is so easy to bring or carry, easy to replace in case someone spills their drink on it and just costs about a few bucks. More importantly, almost everyone already owns at least one deck. Consequently, students consider playing card games a permanent part of the recreation setting in colleges. While there is a ridiculous vastness on card games, a few exceptions have emerged as favorites over the rest.

There are hundreds of college card games that you might encounter on your campus. For more unique ideas, there are endless sites on the World Wide Web which you can easily check.

Ah, the college season is soon on our way and thousands of students are either going back to the college, or there are the freshman who are going to be experiencing it for the first time.  Since most college students really aren’t the richest people in the world, small care packages can help them down the road.  Even if you fill up a little tote bag with $15 worth of items, it’s the thought that counts!

Now, if you want to send out a care package to someone that is going off to college, but you have no idea on what to send, here are some ideas that you can use when you want to pack up a bag.

#1 School supplies - They are going to school, so we know that they are going to be able to use items such as pens, pencils, notebooks and more.  These items are relatively cheap and can even be found at your local dollar store.

#2 Food - Since most college students won’t be cooking up a home meal each and every night, snacks and food can get them through some rather lengthily study sessions.  Students love food such as EasyMac, Ramen Noodles and more.  Basically anything that you can heat up within 2 minutes is gold!

#3 Bath essentials - Another group of items that most can’t live without.  Since we need to take a shower on a daily basis (hopefully they do), items such as soaps, shampoos, deodorants and more can all help tremendously.   Look for coupons because many of these bath products can be purchased for a rather lower price.

#4 Entertainment - If you know the student rather well and you know of their personal tastes, then consider sending them something such as a movie, DVD or even a CD that they would enjoy.  For example, send out a movie with a box of popcorn and candy.

#5 Laundry items - Just like eating and showering, laundry is something that needs to be done as well.  If they live on the campus, there’s a good chance they either go to a laundry mat, or someone’s house.  Include items such as detergent, fabric softener, quarters and more.

#6 Cleaners - Whether it’s a dorm room or an apartment, cleaning is going to be done, even though it probably won’t be done that often.  Include items such as cleaner, mops, wash cloths, dish soap and more.  Basically anything that you use around the house, they are going to use it as well.

#7 Gift cards - Like a gift you give someone for Christmas, if you don’t know what to give someone, you can always hand off a gift card.  Consider purchasing a gift card for either a small restaurant in the area, or even an office supply or grocery store.

When sending out the care packages, consider sending it out in a reusable tote.  By doing so, they can reuse the tote for storage and more.  This is your chance to be creative and brighten someone’s day!  Consider the ideas above, personalize it and send out as soon as you can, because trust me, students need it!
