Having a gap year is not at all unusual.  Many individuals used this time to explore the world, or take a rest. If you are planning to take some time off from school before venturing to college life or in between college, it all depends on how you are planning to spent this gap year and how you manage your time. Consider the circumstances why you are planning to take some time off.  Are they more worthy than being in school?

Written below are the Pros and Cons of taking time off from school.  Decide and consider the possible things that might happen and get along your way.

PROs

  • If the reason behind the year gap is to take some time off before going to college, it is an ample time for you to think what degree to pursue on college. This time will serve as a reflection for you to internalize your endeavors in life
  • A year off will be able you to save several hundreds or even thousands of dollars from school. This way, you can open a college deposit for you to be ready for the next school year.  College is somewhat expensive that many students got a degree with college debts waiting to be paid.
  • Are you planning to travel outside the country? This would make a good time to travel and broaden your horizon and add perspective to your life.
  • Some students who experienced a year gap claimed to have matured than their peers at school.
  • The classroom is not a limit. Taking a time off doesn’t necessarily mean you are unprogressive. Learning is more than the 4 classroom walls, so this is a good time to volunteer, work. You’ll develop skills that you don’t have before.

CONs

  • If you feel unproductive during your gap year, you’ll soon get the feeling that it’s just a wasted year. The temptations to go out with friends, and get used being a bummer.
  • A time off is a relaxation and carefree moment away from the stresses of school. Some individuals have already imbibed the laidback feeling that they’re too lazy going back inside the campus.
  • Sometimes it is frustrating to see your friends and classmates getting ahead of you while you are stuck in college or just starting out. Peer pressure is a battle that is hard to defeat. Decide that if it’s a year off, then it’s off and you won’t regret being left behind.

College education can do wonders for just about anyone and if you’re thinking about going to college, there’s a good chance that you’re going to look into the costs before you do anything.    The average college tuition cost is going to greatly vary depending on a few things such as the location of the school, the actual school that you’re attending and so much more.  Let’s take a look at what you’re going to more than likely pay for college.

The average costs of education

Most students pay an average of anywhere from $9,000 – $11,000 per yer for both tuition, as well as fees.  Keep in mind that tuition costs can be as much as $35,000 per year.  Those type of schools are your Harvards, Princetons and Ivy league based schools.

The community college…

For a two year community college, the average tuition is going to vary anywhere from $2,700 to $3,500 per year.  If you were to take those same classes at a University, the price tag can almost double, if not triple.  This is why many advisors out there will tell you that you should take your first two years at a community college so that you can save money on your courses.  You will find that many community colleges will work with your local university.  This is a great way to get your courses transferred for a lower price.

The public college…

A public college is going to average anywhere from $7,000 to $9,000 a year.  Most public schools are going to charge more for those that are out of state.  Those that are out of state are going to be charged an average of 30-40% more.  For an out of state resident, the price is going to vary anywhere from $11,000 to $13,500 a year.

Most states are going to vary when it comes down to declaring residency with your state.  For example, some states may take 4 years, while other states may only take a year or so.  This is going to be all up to you on finding out what it’s going to take.  You may find it may be worth taking a year off just so that you can save $4,000+ a year.

The private non profit schools…

Private schools are going to always cost more than the public schools.  Always make sure that you compare the public side by side with the private.  You will find that a non-profit private college can cost as much as $30,000 a year!

It’s really hard to tell you what each and every school is going to cost you.  You’re going to find that one college may cost $7,000 a year, while the other can cost $25,000 a year.  What is going to be difference?  It’s really hard to say.  One of the best ways to get a good idea on what a particular college is going to cost you is by looking at the finances section of the college website.  Most college websites are going to have their tuition rates right on the college website itself.
