A lot of us college students leave home healthy due to our parents providing us with nutrious food, taking care of us and setting rules for us.  Although, once we take off to college we are our own person, have all the freedom in the world, and are incharge of ourselves.  With so much freedom, we can choose to make some no so healthy choices.  Because of that, a lot of college students put on the typical weight gain.

If you’re a college student that wants to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid all the weight gain, continue reading below on how you can do so!

Nutrition:  First of all, you want to make sure you have good nutrition in college.  What kind of food are you eating?  Are you getting together with friends ordering pizza, stopping at fast food or skipping meals?  If so, you want to replace that with healthy snacks and meals.

Exercise:  Getting at least 30 minutes of exercise in each day is important.  Whether you’re walking around campus, playing basketball with your friends or you’re lifting weights, make sure you’re getting your heart rate going.

Priorities:  Make sure you set your priorities straight.  So, when a party comes and people are having beer after beer, you need to remember your health is more important.  Not to mention, you’re there to learn and do well in school.  Its okay to party, but limiting yourself is important.

Sleep:  Be sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.  Your body needs the energy and your brain needs the rest.  So, take care of yourself and be sure to get plenty of sleep.

Make time:  Make time for the important things.  If you have an organized schedule you can make time to have healthy meals, exercise get your homework done, and to get enough sleep.  Set your priorities straight and make time.

Avoiding college weight gain can be done very easily.  It takes some dedication, motivation and some effort.  So, take the time and give your body what it needs before what it wants.

Getting good grades in college isn’t always easy, in fact, it can be quite a challenge. College students have a lot of stress and distractions.  Working a part-time job, going to class, doing homework and studying for the big exams takes a lot of effort and motivation to do well.

What’s hard is when we’re bad at a certain subject.  There seems to always be that subject that we just can’t grasp or understand.  If this sounds like you, find out how you can boost your grades in that certain subject or for all of your grades.

How to Boost Your College Grades:

Make time:  First of all, you need to make time for your grades.  If you party, work too much or don’t take your courses seriously you don’t do well in school.  You need to take the time to care and motivate yourself.

Tutor:  If you’re really struggling and are trying be sure to get a tutor or have a friend help you.  Sometimes we need that extra hour or two and we can understand things much easier.  Don’t be afraid to ask for more help!  It may be just what you need.

Lifestyle:  You need to make sure you have a healthy lifestyle.  Be sure to get plenty of sleep, eat healthy, and get out enough.  If you’re studying on just a few hours or sleep you won’t be half as productive.

Priorities: Set your priorities straight.  What is more important your job or school?  How about partying or school?  I think you know the answer to both – school.  There is nothing worse than having to re-take a class that we already hate, so get it over with the first time.

Positive attitude:  If you constantly say “I can’t do this, I’ll never get it.” you’re taking the easy way out.  Don’t give up, but instead have a positive attitude and prove to yourself you CAN do it.

College is tough sometimes but you can’t let it get the best of you.  Instead, consider a few of these tips, have a positive attitude and set your priorities straight.  Make everyone proud and show them your dedication.

Part time jobs with benefitsGoing to college is already hard enough, but what happens if you’re looking for a part time job with benefits?  Yes, I know it can be tough, because a lot of parents don’t support their child during college, making it hard to get health insurance, as well as money to pay off future loans, or live today.

Jobs are always available, and I don’t care what the media says, you can do a search on websites such as SnagAJob, and you will always find that there are tons of jobs around in your area.

Here are a few jobs that you should consider when looking for benefits such as health insurance, as well as 401ks, etc.

Delivery Jobs: Places such as FedEx, and UPS are always hiring, and you will find that they offer great benefits for their part time workers.  The hours may be long for a part time job, but you will also find that the turnover rates are very high for this job due to the strenuous work.

Tip Jobs: Anything that deals with tips generally will give you benefits.  This is all going to vary depending on the place you’re going work with.  Many corporate restaurants will provide such coverage, but if you apply with a Mom and Pop based shop, you may not get the benefits you need.

Janitorial: Many companies, as well freelance based companies need cleaners, and you’ll be surprised at how much you can make by doing part time work.  I have found that a lot of janitor based jobs will give you some pretty nice benefits.

Sales: A sales job can honestly turn into a lifelong career.  The thing I like about sales based jobs are that the sky is the limit.  You can earn as much as you want with a job like this.  Yes, it isn’t made for everyone, but you will most likely know if it’s made for you.

These are the jobs that I would look into.  You will want to avoid jobs such as cashiering, pizza delivery, telemarketing, and day labor based jobs, because you will soon find out they make you do a lot of work, and the benefits are pretty lousy.

Best Journalism SchoolsSo, you want to get a job in journalism?  That’s great!  You’re looking forward to a career where you can do just about anything that deals with writing, and research.  If you’re researching some colleges today, and you’re interested in getting into a very good Journalism school, let me point out a few that you should check out!

How did you pick out these Journalism schools?

What I did was scour the web, and I based it solely on other student’s reviews, as well as made sure that the school was an accredited school.  You will see that these schools are located all over the United States.

The following schools were some of the schools that were recommended by U.S News and World Reports:

  • University of Richmond
  • Allegheny College
  • Hillsdale College
  • Rust College
  • Thomas Edison State College

These schools were recommend based on student reviews, as well as the Journalism classes that they had to offer:

  • Ball State University
  • University of Florida
  • University of Maryland
  • Northwestern
  • University of North Carolina
  • Michigan State
  • University of Oregon
  • Temple University
  • Kent State
  • University of Missouri-Columbia
  • Berkeley

From going to a few message boards, as well as reading a few reports, the following schools were the main ones that seemed to pop up all over the place.  Now, I know there are probably other colleges out there that offer better programs, or those that have comparable classes, I know this.  If you want to add to this discussion, or you think that there are others that deserve to be on this list, be sure to add your opinion in the comments below.
