There is no better feeling than graduating from college!  After going for 12 years and then for even longer during college, we are ready to stop hitting the books, and are ready to move on with our lives.  We’re all grown up, are looking to start our lives, and ready to work the job we’ve been working so hard towards.

Although, a lot of college students have the fear of not finding a job.  This happens a lot, but doesn’t have to happen to you if you’re willing to look for work.  There may be jobs in your area, but if not there are jobs somewhere else.  What is more important, staying home for a different job?  Or moving to find the job you’ve been working towards?  This can be a tough decision, but one you have to make once you graduate.   The economy will eventually get better and bring more jobs to your area, but who knows how long that will be.  If you’re looking for a job, jobs are known to be in the following places!

Where The Jobs Are at After College:

  • Austin, TX
  • San Antonio, TX
  • Salt Lake City, UT
  • Oklahoma City, OK
  • Raleigh, NC
  • Seattle, WA
  • Rochester, NY
  • Portland, OR
  • Denver, CO
  • Honolulu, HI
  • Nashville, TN
  • Virginia Beach, VA
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Charlotte, NC

As you can see, there are jobs all over the map!  They are in different states and different cities.  Although, most of the jobs are found in the larger cities!  If you’re a big city type person this is great for you!  This can be a perfect time to move to your dream state and find a job, or it can be a slower process if you’re looking for work in your area.  Regardless, you know there will be a job opportunity out there for you somewhere!  Don’t get discouraged, but instead settle for the place that would make you the happiest!

1149239_time_for_math_1Are you starting your first college semester?  Or perhaps you’re already three years in and looking for ways to make this college semester easier to handle.  College is hard, and there is nothing simple about it.  It takes a lot of discipline, time, and effort to get the grades you want.  Although it will never be easy, there are a few tips you can consider to help make it easier!

Helpful College Tips:

  • Make sure you have an organized schedule.  Setting days for hanging out with friends, days for doing homework, and days for working really makes things easier.
  • Always make sure you put your homework before your friends and parties.
  • Work on your homework (on your off days) for at least 30 minutes.  This helps keep your focused, knowing you how much work you have to do, and keeps you from procrastinating.
  • Don’t take on more than you can handle when it comes to credits.
  • Have a healthy lifestyle.  Getting 8 hours of sleep each night, and eating a healthy diet along with getting exercise really helps keep your body and brain healthy.
  • Try and take time to relax.  Although school can take up a lot of time, it is important to keep yourself happy and having fun too!  Spend a day doing your favorite hobbies once and while.
  • It is important to be organized with all your classes.  Have your papers separated for each class, have them all in order, and try and keep a planner on you.  Staying organized keeps you on top of things!

College includes a hectic schedule and busy lifestyle.  Therefore if you can do things that will help keep your organized, and on top of things you will find that the semester will be much easier.  Don’t take on more than you can handle, and make sure you take care of yourself throughout the semester as well, it’s just as important as your schoolwork!

Sometimes we’re not all that lucky and get stuck with a tough professor.  We can tell from the minute we walk in, sit down, and they begin speaking on the first day.  When we have a tough college professor, the semester instantly gets tougher, and they expect a lot more out of you.  So, if you’re looking to make a good impression right from the beginning, you can do so in these few ways!

How to Impress Your College Professor:

Mature - Professors like good, and mature students.  They aren’t too fond of the ones that still act like they’re in high school and cause a lot of drama in the classroom.  Have a mature personality, and show them you are an adult instead of a teenager.

Listen – There is nothing more annoying to a professor than when his or her students are talking when they are talking.  If you want to get on their good side, you definitely don’t want to be a victim of that.  Behave, and listen carefully to what they say.  They also hate when you ask a question right after they just answered it.

Work in time – Since you’re in college, you can’t expect to hand in your papers or work late anymore.  Hand your work in on time, and show them that you are disciplined.  A lot of students don’t do this, so if you can, you’re ahead of them already

Questions – Ask questions when you have a question.  Showing them that you’re paying attention, and are concerned about learning the material they’re going over lets them know you’re actually listening and care.

Care - Show them that you care, ask for tips for upcoming tests and exams, and occasionally ask them how you’re doing in the class.  When they know you care, they will care more about your grade and getting you to pass.

Impressing your college professor may be something you have to do if you have a tough one for the semester.  Sometimes we get lucky to have really nice professors, and other times we don’t get so lucky.  So, if you’re looking to help get on their good side, consider a few of these tips!

1233421_winter_scenery_It’s a shame that our winter break is close to being over.  We’ve been waiting so long for that fall semester to end, and now it has and we’re moving onto our winter semester already.  Although it seems like a bummer, it’s important to think that you’re just one day closer to graduating!  If you’re going to be signing up for winter classes soon, here’s a few tips you may want to consider (especially if you’re from the north!)

Tips for Winter Class Scheduling

Late starts – First of all, you will most likely want to start later in the day instead of taking morning classes.  Something about the winter time always makes us more tired, makes it harder to get motivated, and a lot harder to get up early in the morning. If you agree, you may find yourself skipping more, and getting behind easier.

Online classes - It’s also a good idea to consider online classes in the winter.  You never know what the weather is going to be like.  The roads may need plowing from snow, the roads may be icy, etc.  It’s good to be on the safe side, and just stay indoors when you can sometimes.

Two days - Try to schedule your classes for just two days.  For example, if you’re taking 12 credits, take all your classes on either a Monday and Wednesday or a Tuesday and Thursday.  This will help you avoid going out everyday and make your life much easier.

Same area – You may also want to try to schedule your classes according to the area.  For example, take all English classes so you can stay in the same building instead of walking around campus when it’s only a couple degrees outside.  The closeness of your classes will really help you out when you don’t want to fight the cold.  If you’re going to take the classes in the future anyways, why not just make it easier now?

Scheduling for classes in the winter time is something no one wants to do (especially when it’s freezing outside.)  So, consider a few of these tips, and make your semester run much smoother this time around!

298242_lectureThere is nothing worse than not wanting to start another semester but then to see that you have a bad professor.   We pay a lot of money to be taught about certain subjects, so why should we put up with those awful professors?  If you’re looking to report the bad professor you’ve had all semester long, consider a few of these ways to turn them in!

How to Give Your Professor a Bad Rating:

Counselor – First of all, you can start with your counselor.  Go to the person that helps you choose your classes, gives you advice, etc.  They may be able to slip in a bad word about the person that’s been giving you hard time.

Ratemyprofessor – You can go online to ratemyprofessor.com and tear them apart if you’d like.  Give them a bad rating, explain why they’re not a good professor, and why people should avoid taking this class with this professor.

End of semester – At the end of the semester there is usually a sheet that is given to each student.  You’re supposed to rate your professor and it will give you a ton of multiple choice questions.  Everything from how helpful they are, how much they know about the subject, etc.  If you believe they were horrible, let them know!  This gets turned into the office.

Dean – If you’re looking to be more serious, tell the dean.  Don’t let others have your problem next semester.  Explain to them why you thought they were horrible, unfair, etc.  They will listen, and want your feedback!

There is nothing worse than having a professor that is late, doesn’t show up to class, is rude, is unfair, takes forever to pass back work, is lazy, and one that really should just retire due to bitterness.  Why put up with this?  You’re a customer don’t support bad professors!
