There comes that time in college when we realize we chose too hard of a class, too advanced of a class, or perhaps took too many classes.  When we’re overwhelmed with something, the first thing we want to do is give up.  If you can honestly say you tried to finish the class and you either can’t handle the amount of work or it’s too advanced for you, sometimes you should just drop the course.

You don’t want to duke it out, end up failing and then have your GPA affected because of a class.  So, if you think it’s time to just let go of the class, take these steps to get rid of it completely.

How to Drop a College Course:

Syllabus – First of all, you will want to look back to the syllabus you got on the first day of class.  It will give you a deadline and tell you when you need to drop by.  It will also give you directions on how to do so most likely.  If not, talk to your professor about the issue and see what they recommend.

Counselor – If the first option doesn’t work, simply talk to your counselor.  They are there to help you with your classes, and will be able to drop the class for you.  Just tell them why you’re dropping, and they will be able to withdraw you from the class.

If you’re going to drop a college course, you just need to make sure you do it before the deadline.  There will be a specific date as to when you can drop a class and not have it hurt you.  Otherwise, if you drop too late into the semester it will just count as an “F” when you get your grades.  It won’t count as a drop but a “give up” pretty much.

Whether you’re new to college, or you just feel unprepared, coming prepared to the classroom really isn’t that hard.  If you want some pointers so that you can get better grades, I wanted to show you some tips that you can use in order to get the grades you want.

Have your coursebooks ahead of time

If you’re just starting out with your class, make sure that you get your books ahead of time.  I would advise steering clear of the college bookstore, and instead, purchasing them on places like Amazon, and others.  You’ll find that some professors will give you coursework early in the year, and if you don’t have the book, you may be in trouble.

Read over your syllabus

Your syllabus is given to you for a reason, and when you receive it, you just don’t want to throw it away.  Instead, you’ll want to look it over, and know what to expect each, and every month.  Make sure that you keep this in a class binder, or somewhere you can access it at all times.

Gather up your supplies

Of course, the classroom is more than a textbook.  You’re going to need your typical folders, pens, pencils, and more.  Since some classes such as a lab room is going to be different than others, make sure that you know what each class is going to entail.

Come with energy

Once the school year starts, you don’t want to come to class tired.  A tired brain isn’t going to comprehend many things, and instead, you’ll find that it’s a wasted trip.  Eat breakfast, drink coffee, or something filled with energy, so that you can come to classroom filled with a ton of energy.

Do your reading assignments

I don’t know how many times I saw students not reading what they were told.  Instead of just passing by the chapters, you’ll want to make sure that you read your assigned reading.  You’ll want to do this, because you never know when the professor make pick on you when they have a question.

Study for your tests

This, again is a no brainer.  Just make sure that when you have a test coming up, that you study for it.  If you don’t study, you’re going to find the test is going to be rather difficult.  Since tests make up a majority of your grade, it’s important that you study for them.

These are the main pointers that you can use when you’re looking to become prepared for class.  As you can see, it isn’t hard work, but it’s going to take some effort.  If you’re motivated, and you put forth effort, you’ll be fine!

1218592_puppy_cockerWhen in college we have a lot of things going on and a lot of distractions.  Between going to work, to class, hanging out with friends, and doing homework, we have little to no time to do much else.  Although, when we get to college we often find that we can get lonely sometimes.  We’ve had to make a lot of new friends, leave our family, and leave our home.  Therefore, having someone there all the time to keep us company would be nice.

If you’re thinking about getting a pet while you’re in college, you may want to think about a few other things first before you make your final decision.

Company – First of all, you want to make sure you want company 24/7 because once you get a pet, you shouldn’t give it back unless you really need to.  So, would you like to have a furry little friend by your side all the time?

Training – Do you have the patience and time to train your animal?  If not, I wouldn’t recommend getting one, especially if it’s a dog.  You need to let them out, you don’t want them to go to the bathroom in your dorm or apartment, and training during their first couple months to a year is the most important time to train them.  Otherwise you may have a rebellious pet that is hard to get along with, and doesn’t listen.

Supplies – Do you have enough money to get all the start up supplies and to cover the cost of the adoption fee?  This means their food, toys, litter and litter box (if it’s a cat), place to sleep like a pillow, collars, etc.  The start up cost can be pretty pricey.

Vet – Will you be able to afford to take them to the vet if they need to go?  You need to make sure they’re always caught up on their shots, and get a check up once a year.

Time – Do you have the time to take care of a pet?  Will your pet interfere with your college classes, and put you behind?  You want to make sure you can handle getting a pet, and have time to play with it and take care of it.

Getting a pet in college can be a little stressful.  We already have a lot going on, and don’t need anymore distractions.  Although, if you feel like your have schedule totally under control, and you think you can afford and take the time to play and train your animal, maybe it will be a good thing.

I highly recommend getting a cat for your first pet.  They are easy to take care of, use a litter box and don’t need to be taken out, and can be a lot more affordable than a dog.  Just before you make any permanent decisions, be sure to keep a few of these things in mind!
