Once we’ve graduated college the time is very exciting, yet a little overwhelming at the same time.  We realize that the partying lifestyle is over, the jobs are what matter, and we’re in the real world now.  Finding a job after college is challenging for some college students yet easy for others.  If you’re looking to land a job right after graduation, consider a few of these tips below.

Resume – First of all, you want to make sure you make an awesome resume.  This resume should conclude all your interests, your goals, and what you’ve achieved over the years.  This will really help you get your foot into the door if it’s good enough.  I would recommend looking at professional ones online.

Search – Now, search for an area where you want to live and work.  Keep in mind that you will soon be buying a house one day so find an area that you’re happy with.

Apply – You will start applying now.  Find a good amount of places to apply to, write them all down along with the addresses on how to get there, and make sure you have a resume for each place you’re applying for.

Job fairs – Job fairs are also a great way to get a job.  They have all the open jobs for the area all in one place to make your job searching easier.  Be open minded, find the jobs that work for you, and have your resumes in hand while searching.

Ask – You also want to ask your friends and family if they know of anyone who works where you want to get into, or if they know of any place that needs help.  It seems like people get their jobs mostly because they knew or know someone who already works there.

Finding a job after college can be hard if the economy is bad and the job doesn’t have that much demand.  Although, keep your head up, have a good attitude, apply everywhere, and impress them with your resume!

When you first move into your dorm room, you’re going to soon find out that the room is nothing but a small square concrete room, with no flavor at all.  Since most of us college students have a smaller budget, it’s going to be hard to get the room looking halfway decent.

If you want some dorm room decorating ideas, here are some that you can use.

  • Know a theme: Do you want a specific theme for your dorm room?  For example, do you want a particular colored theme, or do you want something such as a Hawaiian, or Outdoorsy?  Themes can help you decide what will fit your dorm room best.
  • Get some lighting: Lighting can add a whole bunch of life to your dorm room.  The best thing to get is either a stand up lamp, or a lamp that can sit on a desk.  This way, you don’t have to use the overhead light every time you need to do something in the room.
  • Get cheaper furniture pieces: Places like Ikea, and Amazon both have cheap furniture.  Look for smaller things like chairs, desks, and nightstands.  You can find many little things that are less than $100 that will make your dorm room look like a million bucks.
  • Flavor the walls: No wall is complete without pictures.  Since many colleges won’t let you paint, you can always tack up some pictures, or posters that hide the ugly walls.  Find cheap posters online, or find pictures at the Salvation Army, or elsewhere to go with your dorm room flow.  Even if you go over the top, you can take these pictures to your home in the future.
  • Create storage: Another great way to free up room in your dorm is simply by getting storage bins, or units.  If you find that you’re having a lot of stuff laying around your dorm, you can buy cheaper storage bins online, or at a local store such as Target.

These are all ideas that you can use when you’re looking to make the most out of your dorm room, as well as liven it up.  Try these tips, and see what you can do!

1196023_business_man_1We work hard for years so that we can get into college, and then one day graduate from college.  Each day that passes is one day closer to graduation and getting the job of our dreams.  If you have your college graduation coming up in the near future, congratulations!  This is an exciting time for you.  Although, since you’re so used to the college life, you’re probably wondering what life is like after.

Job search – First of all, you’re going to want to find that job you’ve been working so hard for.  Print up a ton of resumes with all your hard work on them, and pass them out to all the places you’re interested in working at.

Pay off loans – You need to keep in mind that if you have any student loans to pay off, they will most likely be coming up soon.  Once you graduate college is usually when they need to be paid for.

Money – You’re going to get serious about money right now.  You realize your loans are coming up, and you want to get an emergency and savings fund piled up.  It is good to have money in the bank for your future house, family, and all the things that come your way.

Planning – After you land your job, you want to start planning for the future.  You probably realized that you don’t want to be in your apartment forever, and that you need to start saving and planning for a new house.  After a good amount of time at your job, it is good to start planning and looking for a place to live.

Settle down – You realize that you’re not a college student anymore, the partying is over, and that the real world has kicked in.  You’re going to start winding down, put your job first, and start to think about your future a lot more now.

A lot of college students are overwhelmed when they graduate college.  They are in the real world now, your job is the most important thing, and money is becoming an issue.  Plan for the future, make wise choices, and be ready for everything that comes your way!

A lot of people once they graduate high school have plans for college.  If you’re one of them, you may be a little nervous to see what college has in store for you.  We’ve never been there before, don’t know what to expect, and don’t know what it will even be like.  If you’re in this situation, and you’re curious to find out what college is like before you get there, continue reading below!

It is always a good idea to be prepared and know what to expect when you’re doing something new or for the first time.

  • The college atmosphere can range for a huge lecture room with hundreds of people, or it can have less people like an ordinary high school class.
  • The college campus is usually bigger than your typical high school.
  • There are usually different buildings that are assigned to different things.  For example, you will have a “math building”, “science building”, etc.
  • You will also notice that there will be a large variety of students of different ages.  You may find people in their 60′s or some in their teens, it’s all different.
  • Going to college is different than going to high school.  You don’t have to show up for class.  Although, attendance does matter and it will hurt you if you don’t.
  • Since you’re a grown adult, you don’t need to ask to go to the bathroom, and you can leave in the middle of class if you want or need to.
  • All college are different, there can be colleges with 50,000 students, or some with just a few thousand or hundred.
  • In college you will have a much more flexible schedule since you don’t have to go to class daily like high school.  Instead students go about 2-3 times a week.

Going to college is much different than going to high school.  The rules are different, the atmosphere is different and even the people are.  Students tend to like college much better than high school just because of the flexibility and convenience.

Finding a roommateSince a lot of you guys in college don’t want to stay on campus, and would rather get a apartment off campus, you will most likely want to get a roommate, since you will find that it’s going to be awfully hard to pay the bills as a single college student.

What happens when you want to find the best roommate that suits you?

Know what you want: Since you will be getting the apartment, know what you want.  You’ll want to write this down in your description when looking for your roommate.  If you don’t want smokers, write that down.  If you don’t want pets, let them know.  You will want to get along with this person, so don’t attract opposites.

Tell them who you are: Never lie about yourself, because you have to put yourself in the other person’s shoes.  They want someone that they can get along with as well.  So, explain yourself a little bit in the ad.  If you’re a 19 year old college student, who smokes, and has a dog, you need to tell people this.

Post your ads online: Sites like Craigslist will let you post your ad for free.  Once again, post it, let people know what you want, and see what kind of responses you get.   You don’t want to go with the first person that responds, but wait a few days to see how many people respond.

Interview the person: You want to treat your roommates like a job interview.  Go meet for coffee, or meet at the apartment, if you want to.  This will allow you to get a great first impression.  If you don’t trust this person just yet, have one of your friends come along with you.  You want to think of safety first.

Set up a roommate agreement: When you find the person that you want to live with, make sure that they agree to your terms, as well as payment.  The best thing to write up is a roommate agreement.  You want to make it as legal as possible to ensure that the roommate doesn’t run away.

These are all great steps that you can take in order to find the best roommate.  By doing this alone, you will find that there’s someone out there for everyone, even when it comes down to a living partner.
