Heading to college can be a fun experience, but it can be a stressful one as well.  If you’re heading into college without a career choice in mind, you don’t have to worry about it right away, because no matter what career path you follow, you’re going to need to take your general education courses as well.

If you’re confused on what you want to be in life, you’re not alone.  Thousands of students either think they know what they want to do, only to change their mind later on, or some are just clueless 100%, and that’s okay because there are literally thousands of career opportunities out there.

Take a test online - There are a million tests online, but I found FunEducation.com to have a great selection of tests that you can take.  Keep in mind that some of these are going to be rather long, but well worth the answer in the end.  It will give you a better idea on what you want to do with your life, and know yourself a little more.

Meet with a college advisor - Sometimes you may think you know what you want, but you really don’t know.  There are so many careers out there that you may not even know about that may interest you.  If you know what college you want to go to, I would advise you meet with an advisor to discuss potential opportunities.

Turn to the Internet – Whenever I’m pondering something, I tend to turn to the Internet to find what I’m looking for.  I did a quick search on how you can choose the perfect career, and came up with the following sites that can help you tremendously.

Try a few of those sites, and work your butt off, in order to find what works for you.  The perfect job is out there for you, and remember that if work seems like work, you’re in the wrong field!  You should absolutely love what you do.

Phone for free onlineAs a college student, we all know that paying for many bills isn’t possible.  With all the studying that has to be done, it’s hard to get a job, let alone pay a few bills.  Since the main bills, such as tuition need to be paid off first, it’s important that you look for free alternatives, if you’re looking to make free calls to friends, and family.

SkypeWith millions, and millions people using their service, Skype is an amazing service if you’re looking to connect with people on the Internet.  If you want to make phone calls through your computer, Skype has some very low pricing plans per month, which I think are well worth it.

Google VoiceGoogle recently launched Google Voice, where you can make free calls from your cell phone.  With this service you will get a free number, and this will forward your calls to your phone.   You can also call a number, in order to save on your phone bills.  It comes with a great voicemail feature, and more.  Did I say it was 100% free?

Gizmo5 - Just like Skype, you can call any users on Gizmo from your PC to PC for free.  There’s no set up fee, and no monthly fees as well.  I like Gizmo5 because of it’s cool interface, but if you’re looking for a great way to connect with more people, Skype may be the way to go.

iCall - iCall is awesome because you can’t make free calls throughout the USA.  The only downfall is that you’re limited to 5 minutes on the free plan, but if you need to make it short, and sweet, this may be the right option for you.

InternetCalls - I’m going to save the best for last.  InternetCalls let’s you call a ton of countries for free.  There are some limitations though, but this service is worth a shot as well.

Once you walk around campus, you’re going to realize that a majority of students out there have  a lot of credit cards, but what exactly do they use their credit card for?  Do they use it for things such as school supplies, or are they careless, and blowing it on stuff such as party supplies?

The Sallie Mae National Study of Usage Rates and Trends in 2009 came out with some great statistics on what college students use their credit cards for.  Here are the results for 2009 compared to those back in 2008.

Item 2008 2004
Textbooks 76% 71%
Supplies 75% 74%
Commuting 54% 29%
Computer 41% 18%
Tuition 30% 24%
Fees 30% 29%
Room and Board 17% 6%
Food 84% 71%
Clothing 70% 68%
Cosmetics 69% 49%
Travel 46% 30%
Gifts 44% 39%
Medical 34% 13%
Entertainment 31% 25%
Telephone 27% 30%
Cable TV / DVD 24% 23%
Music 23% 37%
Rent 18% 8%
Internet 15% 10%

As you can see, not a whole lot has changed since 2004.    Some of the bigger things that have changed are due to either medical costs, because of the higher fees, cosmetics, as well as computers.

As students spend their money on just about everything out there, what exactly do you plan on spending your credit on?  Do you plan on paying it off on full?  If you have one today, what do you generally purchase?

We all dread going back to college in the fall.  The summer that we’ve been looking forward to so much is now over, and we are back to the books.  Although it may sound boring and like a drag, you should make the best of it.  If you have a positive attitude and try to have fun, you will.  If you don’t, you won’t have fun it’s that simple.  So, instead of walking in with a bad attitude think of the fun ahead of you.  You can have a fun college semester if you consider doing a few of these things!

Maintain – If you maintain a good schedule throughout your college semester’s your work will be much easier.  Do a little bit each day, and don’t get behind.  We only stress out when we have too much to do, and when we waited until the last minute to do it.

Friends and family – Be sure to make time for your friends and family.  These are the people that keep us entertained, and having fun.  So, keep an eye on school but don’t let that be your only focus in life.  Have some fun!

College events – There are some great events to consider.  Try going to your school/cities football and basketball games!  These are always a great time.  Get together with friends before hand, and get together after the game to celebrate.

Parties – We all know how college students like to party.  So, you can’t tell me you’re not excited for these times to come.  Getting together with friends is a great way to get away from school for a little while.

One year closer – Every time you walk into your class, think about how you’re one year closer!  Also, keep in mind that we don’t go to college forever.  Every semester that we finish is one less that we will never have to do again!
