Saving money should be the name of the game when it comes to college.  I find that one of the best hobbies when it comes to keeping myself entertained at college is simply by renting a DVD.  Today, I’m going to show you how you can save money on your next DVD rental.

Look for a RedBox in your area

RedBox is a new hit and it’s by far my number one favorite.  I’m not sure if you’ve seen them yet but they are the little red kiosks located in Wal-Marts, McDonalds, Grocery Stores and more.  Look for one in your area and check it out.  If you do decide that you want to rent from this service, you’ll find out that it’s only $1/day to rent a DVD, you can’t beat that bargain.  The cool thing about RedBox is that you can rent movies for free on Mondays.  All you need to do is head on over to RedBox.com and apply for their text message service.

Sign up for NetFlix

Blockbuster is a thing of the past and no one wants to walk in there and pay $4 for a DVD rental when you can pay $10 a month with NetFlix and rent unlimited DVDs.  Not only that, you’ll also see a bigger selection compared to Blockbuster.  NetFlix is great for those students that watch a lot of DVDs each month.  If you even find the $10 package to be a little high, get a few friends together and go from there.  Also, if you find yourself with a Xbox 360, check out the online streaming service on your dashboard.

Go to your local library

Everyone always forgets this one when it comes to DVDs. My local library has a great selection of DVDs and while they generally don’t have a lot of copies, I can usually find something that I enjoy.  The next time you want a movie, stop by your local library and see what they have to offer.  As long as you’re a resident of the county you’re in, you’ll be able to rent from them, usually at no cost.

Try some of these tips when it comes down to renting a DVD.  There’s no reason you should step foot into a Blockbuster or pay $30 for a brand new DVD.  Save your money and try some of the tips mentioned above to save money today.

Saving on a rental truckWhen it comes time to either move to your new college or you want to move back home, you may find that you’re going to need a lot more than just your car.  This is when the moving truck companies come in.  No, you don’t have to bring it back to the college area nor do you have to hire any professional help.  You’ll be able to do it all on your own.

Start researching the rental truck companies

You’ll be surprised at how many rental truck companies there are out there when it comes to moving.  Many people just think of U-haul when it comes down to renting a truck but there’s so much more than that.  When it comes time to reserve, I always recommend that everyone checks out the following companies:

Look for online coupon codes

Every one of the websites mentioned above will enable you to get a quote directly on their website.  When you compare the four companies, don’t reserve just yet because there are other ways to save.  The next step that you want to take is to look for coupon codes online.  When I was looking for a rental truck for one move, I found a nice 20% off coupon online.  Simply search for “<company name> coupon codes”.  Sites like RetailMeNot.com, etc will have codes for you to use.

It never hurts to ask

If you feel you want to work with one particular company but they don’t have the cheapest rates, call them up.  Many of the above companies will match or beat the quote you get from another carrier.   As long as you have it in writing, you should be able to get it for the same price you can get elsewhere.  Also, when getting prices matched, ask for the AAA discount.  If you don’t have a AAA card, see if one of your friends or family have one so that you can save even more.

These tips are great ways for you to save money on your rental truck rental.  With so many people moving in and out each year, it makes sense to spend $100 or so to get a truck to tow away your belongings.  Try some of the tips above and see how much you can save on your next move.

504875_mcgill_university_main_quadAfter high school graduation, we have a few different options.  We can either go to college, and to go a community college, or we can go away for school.  Both have there advantages and disadvantages, but it mainly is based on what the person wants to do.  If you’re thinking about going away to college, but you’re not sure, take a minute to look over the benefits, and see if it’s what you really want to to.

Grow up – Going away to college is a great opportunity for young adults to grow up.  When you have the chance to be away from home, and your parents, you’re taking full responsibility for your actions, and it is a great way to learn to be independent.

On your own – Once you’re away at college, you have the sense that you’re “on your own”.  Once again, that is a great way to become independent, and see what it is like to be on your own.  We all need that time alone to grow up a little, and we need to learn to take care of ourselves.

New friends – Also, when we break away from the nest at home, we’re forced to meet new people, which means we’ll make a lot of new friends.  Friends of course are great to have, and can really make going away to college worth while.

Great experience – Not everyone has the opportunity to go away to college, so if you do, I suggest you take advantage of it.  Although, do what you want to do, not what your friends want to do.  Going away to college can be a great experience, and some of the funnest years in an adults life.

As you can see, going away to college is a big step in a young adults life.  It is made for certain people, and a community college is made for certain people.  If you don’t get homesick, and you love change, I highly suggest you try going away to college.  Listed above are some of the major perks of going, and if you like what you see, you’ll be just fine!

Since college can be extremely expensive, it is pretty hard for a college student to get by without having a job.  In fact, it is pretty much impossible.  Not only is the college life expensive, but just everyday living can break the average person.  So, if you’re a college student that is pretty tight on money, and you’re looking for some extra spending cash to make your life a little easier, there are several jobs out there for you to look at.

Although, there are several jobs out there for you to consider, there are also jobs that can be very beneficial to you.  One job that is beneficial is on-campus jobs.  If you can find a job that is located on your community college or university campus, consider yourself lucky.  Why?  Continue reading below to find out how convenient they are.

Money – Like any job, it is great simply because you’re getting paid.  Regardless of what job you have, all that matters is that you get a paycheck at the end of each week.

Easy – When working for a college, you’re most likely going to get a job that is pretty easy.  A lot of jobs consist of working in the bookstore, being a secretary, doing paper work, etc.  Whatever you need to do, it won’t be too hard, or something you can’t handle.

Already there – How nice is it to have work, and then go to class, or simply go to class then have work after.  Since you’re already there, that is one less step you’ll need to take.

All in one place – It is also a good feeling knowing that work and school are both in one place.  So if you need to stop by one of the two, you’re right by the other one in case you need something.

Having an on-campus job is great, and is very convenient for most students.  It is also a great way to make new friends, and eliminates having to drive too far out of your way.

When graduating high school, students often have plans for college in the near future.  Whether they want to go to a community college or they want to attend a college away from home, there are some pretty big adjustments to get used to.  College life can be pretty different from high school, and therefore it takes some time to get used to the different lifestyle.  If you’re a new college student that is finding it hard to adjust to the college life, you’re not alone.  This is a big step in your life, although there are a few things you can do to help you along the way.

  • Make your surroundings as comfortable as you can.  This means, if you’re away from home make your room just like home.  If you have the things you love around you, you’ll feel much more in place, than if you didn’t.
  • Become a social butterfly.  If you can make new friends fast, you’re to an even better start.  New friends can make adjusting much easier, since you have someone to adjust with.
  • Back home – Just because you may be away from home doesn’t mean you can’t still keep in touch with the ones you love, have them visit you, and you come home to visit them.
  • Get into a certain routine.  If you can get into a good routine that you’re happy with, your life will flow much easier.  When we’re busy, and doing the things we love, we don’t think about being homesick.
  •  Acceptance – It takes some accepting to be able to adjust to the new lifestyle.  If you can accept that you’re away from home, that you have a different lifestyle, and you’re doing this for a good future, you’ll be much happier.

Adjusting to the college life is a big step, but it is something a lot of college students have to get used to.  Everyone has to be the new student, and if you can find others in the same situation you are, you’ll have someone to talk to, and relate to!
