If you’re looking for particular degrees when it comes to college, you may have looked at an art degree but since there are so many fields you can go into, I thought I’d list a few and show you what each one is all about.  If you’re creative and you love to design and draw things, an art degree may be what you’re looking for.

Fashion Design - A fashion design degree would focus on clothing and any other lifestyle accessories.  This is great for those that like to deal with everyday clothing styles and fashions.  Fashion designers generally create their own clothing designs for either themselves or other clients.

Graphic Design - Graphic design focuses more on the technology side.  Here, you’ll work with the computer and great any type of image, logo or whatever a client may want.  Generate everything from a new logo to a website layout.

Interior Design - If you’re a fan of houses and designing the inside of just about any building, interior designing may be for you.  You’ll be able to create designs for everything from windows to doors to furnishings.

Photography - Photography is meant for those that like to capture the moment with photos.  If you love taking pictures and everything else about a camera, photography may be for you.

Film - Just like photography, if you like capturing the moment with film rather than a camera itself, you may want to look into film.  Direct and film either independent films or create commercials.

Animation - Animation is fairly new to everyone but you’ll create 2-D or 3-D models.  Create cartoon based animations for movies, commercials or even a still shot.

Web Design - Again, this is a technology based degree but it does require a lot of creativity.  Learn how to create and run a website.  Generate images and templates for either your own business or clients.

When it comes to art and degrees, you can see above that there are many categories you can choose from.  Each one works in it’s own field.  If you learn a little bit of each one and work for yourself, your skills can take you a very far way.

A question that you hear quite often among many college students is, “Should I get a MBA?”  While every answer is going to vary depending on who you ask, there are upsides and downsides and let’s explore each and every aspect.

Explore the pricing and college you want to go to

When researching your MBA, where do you want to go?  How much is it going to cost you?  What I would do before you sign up for courses is act like you’re looking for a job.  Are there a lot of jobs out there in regards to your degree?  You may find that you’re spending thousands of dollars but you can’t find a job that will pay off your debts because you’re “overqualified”.

Can you get a job with your current degree?

If you can get a job with your current degree, I say go for it and test the job out.  You may find that you’ll simply get promoted throughout the company and this may be better than a degree itself.  There’s no age limit when it comes to getting a degree so if you have to put your MBA off for a few years to test the waters, then do it.

See if it’s worth it over 5 years

Forbes has a great calculator onlinewhere you can input what college you’re going to along with your pre-degree salary and the salary you’re going to get after you graduate.  The calculator will then determine if you should pursue it or not.   You have to remember that a degree is an investment and if you can’t make money on your education, it’s simply not worth it.

Look at the benefits

Now, I know a MBA has a lot of benefits and even if you don’t find you’re going to make money on your degree after five years, you may want to explore the benefits that it includes.

  • It will give you creditibility.
  • You’ll absorb more when it comes to learning.
  • Prepares you more for the workplace.

I could go on and on with the perks of a MBA.  In the end, it all comes down to the person and the career.  If you think it’s going to help you out in the workplace then by all means, go out there and get it.  Explore a few colleges and see what works best for you.

Every once in a while, I like to point out things that you need for your dorm room.   Some things are big like dorm microwaves, while other things may be small like the item I’m talking about today, an alarm clock.  Every student needs an alarm clock.  If you don’t have one, how are you going to wake up for class each and every morning?

Today, a lot of students are resorting to their cellphones to help them wake up each and every morning but there is one problem with this.  Some students find that their cell phone battery dies and the alarm simply doesn’t go off.  This isn’t what you want.  This is why I recommend you look into getting an alarm clock that plugs into the wall.

Sony ICF-C318 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio with Dual Alarm (Black)

This Sony alarm clock is relatively cheap and is going to run you less than $20.  I know most of you are wondering about an alarm clock because a clock is a clock, right?   Well no, there are many different features that each one holds and makes it unique.  This Sony for example will have a backup battery in case your power goes out, it has an automatic daylight savings time adjustment and a programmable sleep timer.  This is great for those that are worried about the power going out.

La Crosse Technology WT-5120U Projection Alarm Clock with Outdoor Temperature

When you first glance at this alarm clock, you’re going to think it’s going to cost you a fortune but it doesn’t.  In fact, it’s going to cost you less than $25.  For those that want a lot more than an alarm clock, I find this one to be very cool when it comes to features.  This La Crosse branded clock displays the time and temperature onto a wall or ceiling, it has an atomic clock feature for automated accuracy, a large LCD screen and more.

Aluratek AIRMM01 Internet Radio Alarm Clock with built-in WiFi (Black)

If you want something really fancy, you will want to consider this WiFi Radio.  I love this radio because it allows me to listen to Internet radio as well without having to turn on my computer.  As long as I have Internet access, I will be able to access just about any Internet radio station online.

There are a lot of cool alarm clocks out there and I highly recommend you pick one up and not just rely on your cell phone.  For as little as $20 or as much as $150, you can pick up some really cool and unique alarm clocks out there.

Best laundry bag for collegeWhen I was a college student, I found myself doing laundry just about every week and yes, it was a pain in the butt.  I had hated waking up early on Saturday morning to go down to the local laundry mat to do laundry with a few other college students.  If you do laundry at your college, I always recommend you go early when it’s not crowded at all.

When I first started doing laundry, I would carry around a garbage bag filled with laundry but it didn’t make sense to have a bag with no air flow.  I would throw my clean clothes back into the dirty clothes bag.  When I saw other students carrying around mesh type bags, I decided to look for one myself and to my surprise, you can pick one up for as little as $10 and they hold up very well.

Here are a few laundry bags that you should check out when it comes to doing your laundry.  I highly recommend you pick up one of these.

Honey-Can-Do LBG-01143 Nylon Laundry Bag 24 by 36, White - This white colored laundry bag is measured at 24 by 36 inches.  It has premium tested material so that you’ll know that it will last through your whole college career.  If that’s not enough, it’s backed by a lifetime limited warranty.  Did I forget to tell you that this bag is less than $10?

Homz Laundry Carry Pack -This particular bag is different than most on the market because it carries a flap that’s great for holding detergent and other things you may need at the mat.  I would also highly recommend that you bring your own supplies rather than buy them at the laundry mat because the mark up is just ridiculous.  This Homz brand bag holds up to 2 large loads, it has an adjustable padded carry straps and can be bought for less than $15.

Whitney Design Pop-Up Hamper with Black Polyester Mesh Bag - If you don’t want to carry around a bag, you may want to look into this cool device.  It acts as a hamper and a bag.  When you’re not using it, you can simply fold it down so it takes up less space.  I like this one because you can throw your dirty clothes into it as the week goes on.  You would think this one would break the bank but once again, it will only set you back $15.

There are a lot of different laundry bags all shapes and sizes.  Some have cool designs while other have pockets and other features.  If none of these suit your taste, check out this page I created with over 600 laundry bags

It is almost that time of year where our college finals start to take place.  The majority of college students stress, worry how they’ll do, how they’ll memorize all that important information, and worry what their grade will be after the big test.  Most college finals either make or break your grade, so to make sure you’re on the safe side, you may want to make sure you do extremely well this time around.  Listed below are some study tips that could really help you when you need it the most!

Rest - Rest is extremely important on a daily basis, and especially when you’re getting ready for a big test.  If you want to be focused, able to comprehend what you’re reading, and do well, you will need to get rest, there is no way around that one.

Positive attitude – If you want to get anywhere, you have to have a positive attitude for everything.  Even if you don’t feel as good about this exam as you do the others, still have a positive attitude.  If you tell your brain you can’t do it, then you can’t, really.

Eliminate - Now, you’re going to want to eliminate any distractions for the entire week.  This means tell your work you have a big exam coming up, tell your friends you can’t hang out, and eliminate anything that may get in the way of your study time.

Notes – When professors lecture, they are giving you the most important information they can think of.  Since college is fast paced, they must speak the most important words.  So, therefore our notes will be very beneficial at this time.  So, make sure you take advantage of those notes you’ve been taking all semester.

Ask for tips – Stay after class one day and ask your professor if they can give you any tips that will help you do well.  They just may tell you exactly what to study, tell you to take a close look at certain things, and give you the tips that you needed to hear.

Your health – Your health is extremely important for when it comes to school.  Try to relax, get rid of any stress (because that won’t help you), eat a healthy diet for the week, and really get some good night sleep.  If you’re partying, coming home late, drinking, and not getting enough sleep, you might as well be prepared to get a bad grade.

As you can see, there are many great study tips you can take into consideration for your final.  If you’re really looking to do well, I highly suggest that you consider these tips above.  They will help you relax, allow you to have a better attitude, and will get you on the road to success.
