With the economy doing as poorly as it is, it’s no wonder why many people today are looking toward the future to see what jobs are really “recession proof”.  No matter what kind of job you get in life, there’s always that chance you may be fired, laid off or have a cut back in your wages but there are jobs that have a better chance of avoiding this in spite of a recession.

Nursing - Nursing will always be in demand no matter how strong the economy is.  Since health care will never go away, hospitals and clinics will always be demand.

Accounting - Accounting is another field that will boom no matter what because people will always need to have their taxes down through thick and thin.  If you’re a fan of any numbers, you may want to look into  any type of tax work.

Internet Marketing  - As the Internet grows bigger and bigger each year, more companies are going to turn to the Internet for just about everything.  This is where you can play a role in learning how the marketing and the Internet works.

Secretaries / Assistants -Sure, it’s not a high paying gig but CEOs and companies are always in need of assistants.  This job doesn’t necessarily require a big degree but it can pay the bills if need be.

Finance / Investing - Just like health care, money is always going to be around. Whether you want to get into banking, investments, etc, there will always be a demand for these products.

Teaching - Schools will always be the backbone of America’s education system.  In order to teach the kids, we need teachers and as the population grows, the demand will just become greater.

Pharmacist - Becoming a pharmacist takes a while but these jobs are available everywhere and are always in demand because we always need someone to fill our prescriptions.

Police / Fire - Just like a teacher, we always need someone to fight our fires and protect our streets.  These jobs are always in demand no matter where you live.

These are just a few of the many recession proof jobs out there.  Remember, as long as you work hard and show up on time, an employer isn’t likely going to get rid of you.

If none of these jobs sound appealing, you may want to check out these industries as well:

  • Education
  • Energy
  • Health Care
  • Environment
  • Government

There are always thousands of jobs out there and when it comes time to find a perfect career, follow what you love and not the money.

Getting good grades in collegeCollege is one of the most important stepping stones in life.  This isn’t like high school where you don’t have to pay anything to attend.  This is why it’s more than important than ever to get the best grades possible so that your money doesn’t go to waster.  If you’re curious on how most students get their good grades, here are some ideas on how they do it:

Study hard:  This is the most obvious one.  Every class is going to have a test and if you don’t study for any of your tests, you can count on a low grade.  Sure, homework is easier since you can use references but when it comes to test, make sure you know everything you can about it.

Do your homework:  Every piece of homework is important whether it’s worth 1 point or 250.  It’s essential that you do everything to show the teacher that you’re willing to get a good grade.  What happens if you miss a homework assignment and you end up being 5 points shy of an A-?

Take advantage of extra credit:  Some teachers will offer extra credit but others many not.  If your teacher offers extra credit, why aren’t you doing it?  Extra credit is the easiest thing to take advantage of, even if it’s only worth a few points.  Every point is essential to getting higher grades.

School is #1:  Sure, you may picture college like a party and it’s okay to party here and then but if you’re doing this each and every night, your grades are going to show.  Make sure that you always set aside enough time to take advantage of studying and doing homework.

Don’t work too much:  If you have a side job for income, make sure you’re not working full-time, this is the worst thing that you can do.  Instead, find a part-time job where you’re working 20 hours maximum.  If you’re working too much, you’re going to be too tired to even study when you get home.  Not only that, you’re going to have no energy for the class the next morning.

Always eat healthy:  The best thing you can do before you head to class is eat a full and balanced meal.  Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner as much as you can.  These are the nutrients that your brain needs in order to function.  If you don’t eat, your brain isn’t going to help you that much.

Don’t overload the classes:  Many students have the vision of finishing school early but you don’t want to take 5 classes a semester.  This is just calling for college suicide.  Instead, try and limit your classes to at least 3-4 per semester maximum.

Getting great grades in college isn’t that hard.  The grades reflect a students attitude.  If you don’t have the attitude or action to work, you’re not going to get the grades you want.  Work hard, follow the tips above and you should see nothing but A’s on your report card.

Choosing a collegeChoosing a university can be hard and it may be one of the biggest decisions you make in your life.  This is why it’s important that you do your homework before you just pick a random college out of a hat.  There are many things that you should ask yourself before you start applying.

How big are the classrooms?  Classroom size is going to vary on each school.  The bigger the classrooms are means little interactions for you when it comes to one on one time with a teacher.  Bigger classrooms also mean more distractions since you’re dealing with more classmates.

How many students get jobs?  A major statistic that you need to look at is how many students get a job in their field after graduating.  Some colleges may fool you and say they employ 98% of graduates but what you don’t know is that those graduates may be working at a McDonald’s not using their degree.

What do you have access to?  Generally the bigger the college is, the more you’re going to have access to.  What kind of amenities does the college offer?  Does it have a nice sized library?  a computer lab?  See what kind of resources you can access when you’re a college student.

Are you located near a city?  When choosing a university, it’s always important that you do a visit.  When you do take a visit to a university, always make sure that you check out the surrounding areas.  This is important because you may find out that the university is in the middle of nowhere.   The reason you’ll want to be near a small town or city is because you’ll most likely need a job or something to do in your free time.

What kind of reviews do the colleges have?  With the power of the Internet, this gives you a great opportunity to look for reviews from other classmates.  With websites like StudentsReview.com, you’ll be able to see what other college students think of their school.

When choosing a university, make sure you ask yourself these questions.  It’s important that you visit the college to get a better feel for the campus.  Choosing a college can be hard but if you do your research, you can truly find a college that fits your needs.

1151002_blue_ocean_2Several students want to go on a spring break trip in college but simply can’t afford to.  Going on vacations isn’t always cheap, but there are definitely good deals out there.  Not only are there good deals, but there are also great ways to budget for spring break if you don’t think you can afford it this year.  In the mean time save up some money, and consider these tips listed below.  They will get you on the right track, and will help you afford to go on that vacation you’ve been wanting to with your friends!

Where to? – First, find a place that is reasonable in price.  Places like Florida, and the states further down south are MUCH more affordable that places like the Bahamas or Hawaii.

How long? – How long do you plan on staying for?  Obviously the longer you stay, the more you’re going to spend.  Plan a vacation for around 4 days, any longer gets expensive, while shorter isn’t as enjoyable.

How’d you get the deal? – How are you getting your vacation deal?  You may think you have a great deal, but it is important to do all your research.  Research sites like Travel Zoo, Kayak, Expedia, and all the main ones out there.  The hotel, plane tickets, etc cost of your trip is going to be the most expensive, so that’s whats the most important to get a good deal on.

Use coupons – Always use coupon codes when you’re looking to save even more money.  For example lets say you have your hotel and airline tickets ready to pay for.  Now, go online and type in coupon codes in a search engine, and see what they have for traveling.  Often you can type in a coupon code, and you will get some kind of deal or percentage knocked off your bill.

How are you getting there? – What would be cheaper for getting there, flying or driving?  Find out what is the most cost efficient for you, and go from there.

Food – It is easy to spend a lot of money on food when you’re on vacation.  Try to be wise, choose places that aren’t too pricey, and get as many hotels with free breakfast in the morning.

Leisure – Vacation is a time for relaxing and exploring the new surroundings.  Just because you’re going on vacation doesn’t mean you have to spend every penny you have on leisure and souvenirs.  Be wise with your purchases and save as much money as you can by doing cost free things like playing and swimming at the beach.

Saving money on vacations is easy, you just need to do some calculations and research.  If you’re really looking to save on your spring break trip, consider the tips listed above.  Don’t spend more than you have to on vacation!  Instead, feel good about how much you DIDN’T have to spend on your trip.
