570619_dry_erase_board_3We all want to do well in college but that takes some hard work and some discipline.  Not everyone finds college easy because if we did we would all have an education!  If you really want to do well in college there is one main rule that you must follow.  What is that rule?  Continue to read below to find out what it takes and why the main rule is so important.

Classes – Make sure your classes are well organized and it is a schedule you’ll be able to follow.  Whether you have one class a day, they are all online or you go just two days a week, make sure they work out with your schedule.

Homework – Always make time for homework.  How can you do this?  Organize your schedule properly so you have the time and you have certain days and times for when you do things.

Folders – ALWAYS have one folder for each subject.  You always see those people that have one folder for each class and it takes them an hour to find a math paper that is in their history paper.  Why?  Simply get a folder for each class even if they are the .10 cent folders!

Work/School – Keep your job for working days and keep school for school days.  Organize your life and only work on certain days and only do homework on others.  You need days that you can rely on to do homework and you also need to be reliable for work as well so find something that works.

Study time – Once again, make time for school.  This means you will have a time just for studying.  This can be in the morning when you wake up, in between classes or even before you go to bed.  Just make sure it gets done and that you make school your top priority.

Play time – Limit yourself to your play time with friends.  This means if you want to go to the mall, the movies or just over a friends house make sure you make sacrifices or only do it if you deserve it and have all your work completed.  It is so easy to say i’ll do my homework when I get home and then come home at 1 in the morning and then have to be up for school at 7 a.m.  It won’t happen so don’t put yourself in those situations.

To succeed in college you  must have oganization and discipline!  In college there will be those night where you have to say no to your friends or no to working for your boss.  College is very important and can make our future for the better or for the worse if we don’t finish.  So, to make sure you do your best be sure to stay organized during college!

Often college students think it is impossible to eat a healthy diet in college but it’s not!  Yes, we are limited on time but a healthy diet doesn’t take as much time as you think, actually i may take even less time.  It is very important to eat a healthy diet but to first start out you need to know what you need and want you don’t to get there.  Continue reading below to find out how you can start eating a healthy diet in college!

Breakfast – As always, it is important to eat breakfast!  You must do it to get your health to the top.  We’ve heard it ever since we were little and there is a reason for that.  We want to make sure we get our brain food and have energy throughout the day.  It is also a good way to increase or vitamin intake.  Start out by eating eggs, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt or anything that is rich in vitamins.

Lunch – Lunch is a bigger meal that should have many vitamins, minerals and protein.  Whether you grab a deli cut sandwich, soup, some kind or meat or even a granola bar with a large portion of fruit or a salad you will be off to a good start.  Make sure your meal is filling, has what you need for a daily basis and isn’t too high in calories.  Try to do no more than 350-400 per meal.

Dinner – This is the meal where you should get your fiber, vegetables and the majority of your protein.  Dinners with meats like steak, chicken and turkey are a great way to start out.  Protein is very important to give you energy and to also allow muscles to develop.  Energy is something we definitely need in college so it is important o get it.  Once again try to stay within the limits of 350-400 calories.

Snacks – It is always good to eat a few snacks throughout the day.  Eat some fruit, vegetables, peanuts, or anything that is good for you.  Snacks prevent you from eating too much at one time, prevent that awful too full feeling and help you burn calories throughout the day.

Eliminate – It is very common for college students to go to fast food restaurants in college in between class but avoid this as much as possible.  Don’t get in the habit of going to McDonalds every Monday and Wednesday to get a Big Mac meal.  This is dangerous to your health and should be eaten as less as possible.  Also, if you do want to get a bite to eat, pack your own lunch.  This will save you money and will save you the hassle of going off campus or can save you from making daily trips to the vending machine.

It is very common for college students to gain a lot of weight when they go away to college or even go to a community college.  Although, it doesn’t have to be that way.  Eat a healthy diet, get plenty of exercise and take a multi-vitamin for the best health!

Student loans with bad creditWe all know that it’s easy to get a loan when you have great credit but if you have bad credit, you can easily become discouraged because it seems as if no one wants to lend to you.  If you’re having this problem, there’s no need to worry because there are ways to get a loan.

Look at all the loan options- There are many options 0ut there when it comes to loans.  Make sure that you look at all the different types and don’t be afraid to apply for each kind.  When I think of bad credit, I generally think of a Stafford or Perkins Loan.  These are easier to obtain compared to traditional loans.  Try one of those if you’re having a hard time with your bad credit score.

Look at federal programs – I know, when you think of the government, you don’t think of good things but there are great funding programs out there that can help you when you’re in need.  Since it’s a win-win for all of us, the government wants to reward those that want an education because it only makes our nation smarter.  A government would much rather fund a college bound student rather than a drop out sitting at home doing nothing.

Use student loan services – With services like SimpleTuition, they can help you find the perfect loan for you.  Services like this will allow you to input all of your information and they will find the perfect loan for you.  These services are 100% free and more than willing to help you find a loan.  If you haven’t tried a service like this yet, I would recommend that you try it, you have nothing to lose!

Ask your parents or relatives- A last resort is always asking relatives or a parent.  Let them know how important an education is to you and your future.  If you have to, work out a legal contract stating that you’ll pay them back plus interest.  If they won’t bite, you can either ask Grandma or Grandpa.  A lot of the times, this does work and don’t feel like a bum for asking!  Most of the times grandparents would much rather give their grand kids money for school rather than something else!

Finding a loan shouldn’t be hard even if you have bad credit.  Try some of the tips above and let’s hope for the best.  Work hard and don’t give up until you find that loan!

Selling college textbooksAt the end of each semester it’s probably the best to sell your textbooks so that you don’t let them sit around and collect dust.  Instead of having them just sit there, you can take that money and apply to your textbooks next semester.  Most of the times, if you bought used, you’ll be able to sell and recoup at least 80% of that money back.  Here are some great places where you can sell textbooks –

Start using eBay- Obviously the best place to sell your textbooks is on eBay.  You can either use their half.com service or place it up for 1 – 10 days.  I usually like to place it online until it sells because you never know if you’ll get bidders within a 10 day time frame.  Since most people buy textbooks before their classes start, there are months where the textbook traffic isn’t that demanding.

Try Amazon Seller’s Central - Yes, Amazon has a seller’s central and it actually works out quite nicely.  The thing I like about Amazon is that you’re able to post your book until it sells.  Let’s say someone is looking for a book, if they want to buy used, they can click on the used tab.  You and however many others w ill have their books up there as well.  Just like eBay, you’ll have a feedback score that you’ll need to work on.  Don’t price your book too high because you may find it won’t sell.

Look at Craigslist – Craigslist.org is a great place if you’re looking to place your books up for free but you’re going to have a lot of competition.  If you’re going to use this method, I would recommend you put your books up at least once a day and make sure you have a catchy title.  Since most students use services like Amazon and eBay, I would make this your last resort.

Your last resort when it comes to selling books is the college bookstore but I would stay away since you’re going to get next to nothing.  If the bookstore offers you $50, you can probably get $100 online and that’s the truth.  Try some of these websites online and if you’re having trouble, there’s either no demand or the price is too high.
