Often when college students are going to school they come across a time where depression hits them.  When taking hard classes, working a part-time or full-time job, and working on homework constantly it is easy to see why depression occurs.  Depression is an awful thing that everyone goes through in life and it is important to never let it get the best of you.  How you can help cure depression as a college student?  There are many ways, read below to find out how you can get rid of your depression as soon as possible!

Admit – First off, you need to admit to yourself that you’re feeling depressed.  Just remember that you’re not alone and that millions of people on this earth feel depression.   Once you admit to yourself that you’re feeling a little under the weather, it will be easier to cure.  Just keep in mind that you can’t be happy 100% of your life.

Interests – Now that you know you have a problem to fix, you need to start brainstorming.  Think to yourself, what makes you happy?  It may be your friends, your family, music or playing sports.  Whatever it is, come up with the things that make you the happiest.  Write these down on a piece of paper and start applying them to your life!  Another good thing to do is to think of what made you happy as a little kid.  Little kids are so full of energy, are always having fun and know how to keep themselves occupied.  Is there anything you could bring back to help you feel better?

Compliment yourself – I know, you’re probably thinking what for?  Complimenting yourself is one of the best things you can do when you’re depressed.  You want to make sure that you realize where you’re at in life.  If you’re working a full time job AND you’re going to college that is a great accomplishment!  If you’ve just recently got a good grade on a test or homework assignment, congratulate yourself!  Make sure you take credit for the great things you accomplish and you compliment yourself for them.

Eating/Exercising – Did you know that most college students today don’t eat a well balanced diet and don’t get enough exercise?  Now, think and ask yourself “Do I get enough exercise and eat a balanced diet?”  If you’ve answered no, this may be a huge part of your depression.  When we eat foods that are high in fat, and don’t many vitamins and minerals we’re not allowing our bodies to function properly. This is where depression takes its place!  Now allow your body to get the nutrients it needs to be healthy and function properly.  As for exercising, this is another very important thing that your body needs on a daily basis.  Exercising releases endorphins and gives you more energy.  When you have more energy and you release endorphins, you reduce stress dramatically and make your body much happier.  Make sure to do these things on a daily basis!

Sleep – Make sure that you always get 8 hours of sleep a night.  When we run our bodies down from going to school, working and studying, we need to make sure we rest our bodies.  Allow yourself time to relax and get a good night sleep on a daily basis!

As you can see curing depression does qualify for some work.  Depression can tear down your body and your immune system so it is very important to cure it as soon as possible.  Bring out your healthy and happy self again by considering these tips!

When you find that it is time to get your first credit card as a student, you may be unaware of how to use it at first.  At first, most college students think that it is free money, which is where the dangerous part comes in.  When you get a credit card, you want to make sure that you are very responsible with it.  If you’re a first time user of a credit card, you may want to read below to get some tips on how to use it.

Once it comes – Once you’ve applied for a credit card, you will see that it will come in the mail shortly.  Once it has been delivered to your house, you will want to activate your credit card, (there will be instruction on how to do so.)  When you’ve activated your credit card, you will want to make sure that you put all the papers that it came with in a safe spot.  They usually come with instructions and all the information you need about your credit card.  If you have a lot of papers that have your name on them, be sure to shred them immediately so that no one can get any of your information.

First Purchase – So, now you’re at the store and you’re about to make your first purchase.  You will simply swipe your credit card and sign your name.  Once the transaction has gone through, be sure you keep the receipt.  You will want to keep your receipt just in case you want to return the item in the future.  Also, you will want to keep the receipt so that you have a proof of purchase.  Lets say that you get your bill and the amount you paid at the store was $30.00 and the bill is for $32.45, this rarely happens but you just always want that proof of your purchase.  Once you have paid the bill, you may now get rid of the receipt.

Paying your bill – If you want to make it clear whether or not you have online bill pay or if you have bills that come through the mail.  If you have online bill pay you will simply go to the website and pay the bill through your checking account.  If you’ve signed up for in the mail, they will send you a bill through the mail and it will tell you the date that it has to be paid by.  You will then send a check or a money order.

Pay in full - When you make a purchase, always be sure that you never make a purchase for more than you’ll be able to pay back.  When you get a credit card there will be an interest rate.  For whatever amount that you don’t pay back you’ll be charged with the interest rate on top of what you owe.  So be sure that whenever you make a payment, you’ll have the same amount of money in the future, so you can pay it back in full.

Pay on time - Always keep in mind that you will have a bill coming in the future if you just put something on your credit card.  If you have bill pay online or you get a bill in the mail and you forget about it you will end up with a problem.  They will charge you more and you’ll end up spending even more than you paid at the store.  Do whatever you have to do to remind yourself that you have a bill to pay.

When you get your first credit card, it may seem a little foreign to you at first but you will get used to how it works shortly.  Just follow these steps and be careful of how much you spend, when you pay your bill and to make sure that you pay your bill in full.

When you’re in your college years you will see that a lot of the money you make will go to things like school tuition, books, high gas prices and many other bills.  These bills make it very hard to save money to put into the bank and to keep some extra cash in your pocket for leisure.  A lot of the money that you earn is probably being spent on unnecessary things though also.  College students still may be learning the value of a dollar and may need some coaching on how to manage their money.  If you read below you will see some useful tips on how to manage your money as a college student.

Set it aside – If you’re currently employed and you have paychecks coming your way, you want to make sure that you always put in at least some money in the bank each time you get paid.  Whether you put in $100 or $5, anything is always better than nothing.  Every time you get paid, treat the money that you’re putting in the bank as if it were a bill.

Where does it go? – Once you get paid set the money down and predict where it is all going to go.  Whether you grab some money and say this is for my gas, this is for my phone bill, and this is for a new video game.  Set it all down and see how much you’ll have left and where it all goes.  This is a good way to see what you spend most of your money on.  If you realize that you’re spending too much money on one thing, be sure to cut back so you can start saving.

Limit yourself – You also want to make sure you don’t go over your head with spending money on leisure.  Going to the movies, the mall, sports game, ect. can be very expensive.  Always make sure you limit yourself to these events.

The unnecessary – Are you a college student that buys alcohol and cigarettes on a weekly basis?  If so, STOP.  Cigarettes and alcohol are very costly and can drain your money out of your pockets in no time.  If you’re serious about saving money, just quit all together.  This can also go for students who spend a lot of money on video games, clothes and other unnecessary items that you don’t really need at the time.

How many times? – Be sure to keep record how many times you go out to the store to buy things.  Try to limit yourself to going shopping.  This can count for things like going grocery shopping, clothes shopping, and shopping at the mall.  It’s easy to say that the more you go shopping the more you’re going to spend.

College students don’t have to be broke.  If you’re currently getting an income you most likely are capable of saving at least some money.  If you’re serious about saving, be sure to consider some of these tips.  They will not only help you manage your money but they will help you see where all your money goes.
