Everyone in this life has a fear, right? Whenever you’re going to start something major such as college, you’re going to have a lot of fears. Yes, its natural and what you’re going to find out is that there are ways to overcome them. There’s no reason to stress out over those things that you can’t control!
#1 My roommate is going to suck - You know what? Yes, this can happen, but if the worst case scenario does happen, you can always request a room change. It isn’t going to be the end of the world. There are some awful human beings out there. Think positive because you more than likely will get along with them.
#2 I’m going to be alone - The rest of the school is going to be your shoes as well. Very few are going to have friends come along with them. Be social and meet new people. If you don’t meet new people, it’s going to be your own fault.
#3 Where will I find time? Time management is a crucial part to college. You’re going to have to balance work, school, and friends. You can do it if you create the right schedule.
#4 I’m going to be poor – If you don’t have a job and you go above your finances, then yes, you’re going to be poor! Make sure that you create a budget and get a nice, part time job to supplement your income.
#5 Will the professors help me? Yes they are going to help you and I know that some students just become intimidated by them and that’s okay. They are there to do their job and many of them want you to succeed.
#6 I don’t want to be alone - You can feel alone if you want to be that way. By meeting friends, working, and joining club, the feeling of being alone is going to be far away.
#7 I think I might fail - Again, this is something that you can control. Look back at your High School days. How did you do here? Honestly, college is going to be no different. Work hard and study. There is no magic formula.
#8 I know I will miss home - Sure, we all miss home, but what I had found out is that after a few weeks, I started to adapt to a lot. Be sure to do things that keep your mind off home.
#9 I’m going to lose my at home friends - Most of your friends are probably going to go to college as well. Keep in touch via phone, Facebook, and more. If you have to, just travel home on weekends to see them.
#10 I’m going to stress out! Let’s face it. You’re going to stress out about a lot of situations in the real world. If you can’t control the situation, then I really wouldn’t worry about it right. Breathe and take things easily.
