Videos - Have some friends over and be silly by doing work out videos.  These are great because you don’t need to leave the house, you can get a great exercise and have a fun time.

Walk - Set aside a few days and a certain time every week that is dedicated to walking.  Whether you walk around town, around the subdivision with your neighbor or take your dog for a walk, move those legs!  This is a great way to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and take time for yourself.

Treadmill - Do you ever get that rage of frustration?  If so, hop on the treadmill for a good 10 minutes.  Sprint, run, jog or power walk and you’ll see your frustration and stress slowly fade away.

College is usually a pretty stressful time in a young adults life.  If you didn’t know already, exercise is one of the best ways to fight against stress and helps maintain a healthy lifestyle.  The problem with exercising as a college student is, people say who has the time?  Between working a job and going to college full time, where do people find the time for it?  Yes, college may take up a lot of time but there is always time to get in exercise.  Need some ideas for getting in exercise during college?  Continue to read below for some tips!

Make a schedule - Just like you make a schedule for school and work, make a schedule for working out.  Whether you dedicate 7:00 a.m. everday to exercising or Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays for an hour.  Whatever your plan, you’re one step ahead on the game.  This is the most important part so choose something that works for you!

Hanging out with friends - Instead of your usual video game nights, shopping nights or movie time get you and your friends to have fun by playing your favorite sports!  If you have time to hang out with your friends, you also have time to get in some exercise and have even more fun.  Create a sports team and play together a couple times a week.

Take the long way - A great way to get in some walking is by parking your car farther away.  Whether you park farther away from the grocery store, or your campus classes, that is a great way to get in some extra steps.  Do this on a regular basis and think of all the miles you’ll rack up.  This is a great thing to do if you don’t have enough time to go a gym on a regular basis.

Take the day off - If you’re currently either working everyday or going to school everyday, take a day off!  Have one day just for yourself.  On this day, don’t do homework or even think about work.  Instead, spend the day at the gym, doing work out videos or playing on a sports team.  It is important that you find time for yourself.

Little exercises - Take about 20 minutes a day to just do little exercises.  These can be push ups, sit ups, stretching, anything you please.  Do them in the morning, in the afternoon or at night.  Anything will help and make you feel better about yourself.

There is always time to work out or get a good exercise in.  If you don’t think you have time, consider these tips above and make the time.  Your health is more important than some part-time job and/or school.  Make sure you make some time to take care of your body.

If you’re currently in college, you’re probably used to that same routine you have.  It’s typical for a college student to get up, go to school, do homework, go to work, etc.  Where is the fun in college?  Often so many college students are used to doing homework or working that in their spare time it feels like they’ve lost all their hobbies.  If you’re a college student that needs some hobbies or fun things to do, continue to read below.  Set some time aside to do those things you love again.

Sports - Try playing your favorite sports again.  When we’re little it seems like our biggest memory was when we were playing our favorite sports outside all day.  Get some friends together, set up a sports team and have some fun!  Getting exercise as a college student is very important and is a huge fighter against stress!

Relax - Go to your nearest coffee shop or bookstore and just take some time to relax.  When in college, life can be pretty stressful.  We’re constantly thinking about what homework needs to be done, guessing what we got on our last assignment, and what chores need to be done next.  This is common but don’t let it take over your life.  Take some time to just sit back and relax!  Grab a book, get a coffee and read something that interests you.

Gym - Try getting a gym membership with some of your friends.  Often when the winter weather heads our way we get couped up in the house and need to get out for a bit.  Getting out of the house, exercising and hanging out with friends is important, so consider a gym membership.  Do this a couple days a week and you’ll see how much stress is lifted off your shoulders!  Now this is a healthy hobby!

Park - Go to your local metro park and make a day of it!  Get your bike, rollerblades, bathing suit, picnic basket, or whatever you wish.  Spend the day alone or bring some friends along.

Movies - When was the last time you went to the movies?  If it’s been a while, have a fun night and go see a movie.  Bring along your boyfriend/girlfriend, friends or family member and see a showing.

Club/class - Look for some clubs or classes in your area that you may be interested in.  Whether you go to a scrap booking class, karate class, swimming, anything.  Try something you’ve never tried before and have fun with it!

There are many fun hobbies out there for college students!  If you’re looking for something to do, consider the tips above or just make more time for friends and family.  It is very important that you have fun while in college.  Repetitive, hard and boring routines call for too much stress and unhealthy lifestyles.

Library - Also, the library makes a great place to study.  It is quiet, has little distractions and doesn’t have that school atmosphere.  Head to your local library and get out of the house for a while!

Bookstore - Bookstores are also a great place to study.  Whether you go to Borders, Barnes and Noble, or you local bookstore, it is a great place to go and spend a couple hours.  Bookstores also have a quiet atmosphere and a lot of the time, you’ll find people doing exactly what you’re doing, studying.

Ah, you made it through most of your first semester and even muddled through mid-terms.  It’s your first trip home to see the family and all the friends from high school that you never get to see now that you’re all at different schools.  Friends, family, fun and relaxation.

But wait, it’s not that simple.

Mom and Dad have a few expectations of you while you’re once again “living under their roof,” and the adjustment can be tough.  But, follow a few simple tips and you’ll not only make it through Thanksgiving but you’ll be prepared for the much longer stay at Casa Mom and Dad during winter break.

Talk to them.  You want to be treated like an adult by your parents.  After all, you live on your own (sort of), make your own decisions (usually) and have to accept the consequences of your actions while at school.  But, that’s not the way they see you.  You’re still the brace-faced kid who always forgot to take out the garbage.  If you communicate with them about what you all expect in the way of behavior and boundaries while at home, everyone will be much happier.

Show a little respect.  They ARE your parents.  They deserve more than a mumble in response to a question and for you not to destroy their house because you feel entitled in your new role as visitor.  You’re not a visitor and those are not appropriate or mature ways to deal with people who care about you.

Share some quality time.  Your parents miss you.  And, admit it, you miss them too.  They also understand that you want and need to spend time with your friends while you’re home, but you need to divide the time.  No monopolies.  And, if you’re parents are demanding ALL of your time, be honest with them about how they’re not respecting the boundaries you’ve (hopefully) agreed upon.

Let them know you care.  Maybe it’s helping bake the apple pie or basting the turkey or just hanging out and chatting about dorm life—whatever it is, you must be a PART of things.  It’s not very endearing to leave the house for most of the week visiting friends and then, just as you’re about to go back to school, ask Dad for a few extra bucks and wonder out loud why Mom didn’t fold your laundry.

Say THANK YOU!   Say it as you’re leaving and give them a call later when everything’s quiet and they’re feeling the emptiness of their nest, and tell them again.

No one’s saying the holidays aren’t stressful but a change in attitude can do wonders. And, if you can manage to keep your sense of humor (and, let’s face it, you’ll need it), you’ve definitely come a long way, baby!
